Training Program

What is the CLT Program

  • CLT is species-specific customized training on livestock handling, loading and biosecurity (beef & dairy, hogs, poultry, sheep, equine, bison & elk).
  • CLT content and delivery was developed with input from industry advisors (producers, truckers, packers, researchers, gov't enforcement, and industry associations).
  • The program involves two components: the Classroom Training Session and the hands-on Practical Training Session.
  • Participation is voluntary at this time, but some packing plants may require delivering drivers to complete a training course such as CLT in the near future.
  • CLT has been developed by Alberta Farm Animal Care (AFAC) Association, with funding assistance from its industry partners and the Alberta Livestock Industry Development Fund.

How to book a training program?

  • Any individual or company associated with the livestock industry can organize a CLT training program.
  • Email for details and scheduling or call 403-662-8053.
  • Each session delivery will be customized to include ONLY those modules that the participant group wishes to cover (to better serve the cross-species transport companies – i.e. beef & hogs).
  • The courses are delivered by highly qualified individuals.
