The development of the CLT multi-species livestock transport training course required careful consideration from all sectors of the industry; enforcement, marketing within the industry, practical standard operating procedures from the truckers themselves. In order to accommodate these diverse inputs, a comprehensive CLT Advisory Group was established.
The primary developmental issues were divided into three categories, and each category was assigned a Discussion Paper outlining the basic considerations for the issue and how the final development goal might be achieved. The CLT Discussion Papers were:
- Certification - defining the certification procedure
- Skills Profile - defining of the skills profile of a CLT qualified transporter
- Course Content - defining and choosing the course materials (hard-copy and multi-media)
Each Discussion Paper was emailed to the members of the advisory group for review and comment. All comments were refined and drafted into a corresponding Advisory Paper and redistributed to the advisory group for final review. The CLT course direction and materials were developed from these inputs.
Once the materials were drafted (workbook manual, videos, etc) they were redistributed to the advisory group for final review. All materials are considered to be living documents and are designed to be modified or updated at any time as required.
The CLT advisory group was kept updated throughout the 59 weeks of the primary development stage through a weekly CLT Update. In addition, select advisors (usually those with considerable experience in their particular area of expertise) were consulted on a regular basis throughout the developmental stages of the project.
The CLT training program is deeply indebted to the advisors and contributors that gave so freely of their time and knowledge to make this project the best it can be.
